I Hope and Pray

I hope and pray that there will come a time

She’ll learn to love & treat herself right

Although she feels she’s not good enough

There is someone who loves her so much.

I hope and pray that she will eventually see

Her charm, wonder, value, and beauty

She deserves the best that life has to offer

Happy is the man who’ll be hers forever.

I hope and pray that all of the scars

Seen plunged deep within her heart

Will be healed in time, and be replaced

By hope & joy to see brighter days.

I hope and pray that there will arrive a day

A genuine smile will be found on her face

She is struggling, but things can get better

It is stormy now, but it cannot rain forever.

You & Me

Promise me that you will be here to stay

You will not be like the rest and walk away

‘Cause you are worth too much to lose

And I am deeply afraid of hurting you.

If there is anything that I can do

Or say to prove that my feelings are true

Let me know, and I will do it in a heartbeat

I just want you to sincerely trust in me.

When you laugh, my world stops in motion

The sight of your eyes, blue like the ocean

Puts a genuine smile on my face

I never wanna put what we have to waste.

And when you cry, my heart breaks

I’d wipe the tears from your precious face

Pull you into a warm, loving embrace

Give you hope for better & brighter days.

When you feel as if no one cares

Remember me; I will always be there

As you have always been here for me

It’s you & me together for eternity.

My Goals For May 2019

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”

Tony Robbins

When we have aspirations and dreams, we have something to look forward to. We see a reason to wake up the next morning and make the most out of the day. When we see a purpose to our existence, we are driven, motivated to get things done.

This is one of the reasons why I find goal setting very important. Creating action plans for yourself gives you inspiration to aim to do things that you never thought you could do, and can serve as a guide for what steps you would like to take in order to accomplish your goals.

While there are people who prefer to be spontaneous, I am a planner. I enjoy creating to-do lists, and feelings of pleasure and satisfaction wash over me whenever I cross off one of the tasks on the list. I have also created more than a few documents on Google Docs, where I keep track of my goals, long-term and short-term alike.

Several of my goals for this May are as follows:

  • Shift courses. The previous school year, I decided to take an online course in Communication. Unfortunately, however, the course did not pique my interest. So, I’m hoping to shift to a different course, like English or Computer Engineering.
  • Work out regularly and for longer periods of time at the gym. I have been getting physical exercise more often recently; however, only for 10-30 minutes a day, 2-4 days a week. I want to develop and maintain a fit and toned body, and to achieve this goal of mine, I’m going to have to step up my game.
  • Become a fluent speaker of Tagalog. I was born and raised in the States, but I currently reside in the Philippines. Tagalog is a language spoken in the Philippines. I want to be able to speak the said language clearly, confidently, and fluently, so that I may communicate with other people in the country without having a difficult time. I know the basics of Tagalog, but I still struggle with comprehending the more deep, complex words of the language.
  • Help around the house everyday. My mother is extremely diligent when it comes to doing household chores. Every day, she wakes up early to cook and prepare breakfast; sweep the floors; wash the dishes; and so much more. I may not say it aloud all the time, but I truly appreciate her and everything that she does for the family. As a means of conveying my gratitude for my mother, I plan to help around the house more often. At present, I wash the dishes but only every once in a while. I hope to devote more time to doing chores, including cooking and preparing meals; folding the clothes; doing the laundry; and taking out the trash.
  • Read more. In truth, I have not been spending much time reading recently, partly due to my hectic schedule with work. But I know that laziness also plays a role here. As of today, I am reading Che Committed Suicide by Petros Markaris; The Talisman by Stephen King; and Run Away by Laura Salters.

What are your goals for this May? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

The Importance of Communication in Relationships

Communication—the human connection—is the key to personal and career success.”

Paul J. Meyer

Communication is an integral part of human connection. When effective communication is used in a relationship, respect and trust for the other person is strengthened. It is true that relationships have their ups and downs and twists and turns. Even the closest of friends argue on certain matters. But if both people in the relationship are able to implement the use of good communication strategies, it will be easier for them to understand each other’s point of view and deal with the issue at hand.

Without communication, people would find it difficult to build and maintain relationships with one another. Communication allows individuals to express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas with others. The manner in which we communicate is also important. Not all styles of communication are beneficial. There are certain ways in which people communicate that may cause harm to themselves and those around them.

Communication is not all about talking. There is also such thing as non-verbal communication. Elements of non-verbal communication include eye contact, facial expressions, voice fluctuation, and body posture. These types of body language play an important role in communication just as speaking does. In fact, non-verbal communication is more powerful than verbal communication.

A person’s body language conveys more honesty than their words. For instance, you and your classmates just took an important and difficult exam. After the results were given, you ask your best friend if she did well in the said exam. She says yes and gives you a smile that does not seem to reach her eyes, which look sad and teary.

Therefore, it is important to try to understand a person not only through the words that come from their mouth but also through their body language. The importance of communication in relationships cannot and should not be underestimated.

Success and Coping With Struggles

“There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.”

Zig Ziglar

The meaning of the quote stated above is that, success cannot be handed to you on a single platter. In order to become successful, you have to work for it, and not for merely a short period of time. It may take months, years, or maybe even decades, for you to achieve success. Regardless of how long it will take you to become successful, however, there will come a day when you will look back and be grateful that you did not give up.

People have different definitions of success. In someone’s eyes, the idea of success may mean having a good career, owning a nice car, and living happily with one’s family in a big, beautiful house. For another person, one is successful if he/she is doing well academically (getting good grades in school) and emotionally (feeling happy and stable).

People also have different ideas of how to become successful. We each have our own strategies and techniques in coping with problems; we all find that certain things help us, whereas other things do not.

Here are some things that I find have helped me cope with my struggles:

  1. Drawing near to the Lord God. There is no better friend than God, who created all living things. His love for His creations is great and sincere, and there is nothing that He cannot do. When I close my eyes and pray fervently to Him, I feel that He is listening, hearing my cries for help. Once I am finished praying, the pain in my heart fades, and a wave of calmness and relief washes over me. I know in my heart that I am nothing without God; had it not been for Him, I would not even be here.
  2. Keeping myself busy. During my moments of isolation, I tend to think too much and get affected by the littlest things, which causes feelings like anger, anxiety and sorrow to stir in my heart. I feel happier and more satisfied with myself when I have accomplished a lot.
  3. Listening to music. Music is an important part of my life. It is like a friend that has been there for me when nobody else was. It has helped me get through dark times. Some of my favorite genres are Christian, alternative rock, and K-pop.
  4. Reading. I especially take pleasure in reading fiction, which is likened to a temporary escape from reality to me. When I read a science-fiction and fantasy novel, I picture myself as the protagonist of the story, or any of the other prominent characters, and feel as if I am being taken to a new dimension.
  5. Writing. As I stated before in A Fresh Start, writing is my passion. Back in first grade, I would write short stories then share them with my teacher, who would tell me to read it aloud in front of my classmates. I began writing poetry when I was around twelve or thirteen years old. At present, I do not write poetry as often as I did before, but I plan to change that.

What things give you comfort and hope in the midst of troubles and distress?

A Fresh Start

Hi there! Welcome to my blog. My name is Arianna, but you may call me Ari. I have another blog on WordPress entitled A Poet’s Paradise, which I use primarily for sharing my works of poetry. I created this blog, so I could express how I feel and what I believe and think of; and I just wanted to have a fresh start, hence the title of this post.

A little about me:
I turned twenty nearly two months ago (February 18). My favorite colors are white and black. I enjoy going to church on a regular basis, as doing so is like a stress reliever for me. Writing is my passion. During my free time, I often listen to new music and, if I like the song, I download it on my laptop and phone. I dream of becoming an electrical engineer, and I have plans to study in the future to become one.

If there is anything else that you would like to know, please don’t be afraid to ask.

If you’d like, you may also introduce yourself in the comments below. I’m always willing to meet and get to know new people!
